Yemen Humanitarian Crisis
What's Going On?
Yemen is a country located right underneath Saudi Arabia. Yemen has been in an ongoing war for about 5 years now. The country is now a humanitarian crisis. The former president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, was ruling for 33 years and was being urged to end it. Protesters broke out in retaliation so he could resign. Due to their voices not being heard, the protesters were dying on the streets by early 2011. In November, power had then been passed onto the vice president, Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi. He had attempted to change their constitution which resulted in repulsion by the Houthis. Houthis are a small branch of shia muslims known as Zaydis. In the past, North and South Yemen had different political systems. Hence, the beliefs of such caused many disputes. The Houthis have caused disruptions which were led from disagreements. They've used missiles and drones to tear down the country and small villages to only kill people. Nearly 24 million people have died and will continue to die if the corona virus finds its way over. Yemen is suffering from a humanitarian crisis, famine, and a war zone.
